The amount and the toxicity of the produced wastes are as important as any other analytical feature during the development of new analytical procedures and researches have been focused on the development of methods more friendly to the environment and to humans. The number of publications with this focus has to increased significantly demonstrating that microwave radiation can be used in different fields of chemistry, such as digestion and extraction procedures. Lately, new procedures for sample preparation were developed including microwave induced combustion, vapor-phase digestion, sample addition to pre-heated reagents, combination of ultraviolet radiation and on line microwave digestion. This chapter presents an overview about microwave-assisted sample preparation procedures for spectroanalysis and a discussion about how these strategies led to greener procedures. |
